Introduction:
Minaslax
(Perlite Ore) is used in many Ferrous and Non-ferrous
foundries
as a “slag coagulant”. It is used in ladle
topping where granulated perlite ore is added to molten
metal pouring ladles. The ore reacts with the slag
in the ladle to allow easy removal of the slag layer.
Expanded perlite forms an efficient insulating blanket
in cases where it is desirable to maintain a metal
temperature in the ladle.
When it is introduced during ladle filling, a gentle
rolling motion is produced which cleanses the metal
by coagulating impurities. In addition, ladle- lining
life is increased by virtue of a vitreous residual
coating left on the refractory by the perlite.
Primary Benefits summarized:
Reduction in heat loss
Extraction of metal impurities
Protects ladle lining
Aids in desulphurization of ferrous metals.
Inhibits re-oxidation at the surface of molten metals.
Minimizes casting defects.
Causes no noxious gases or dust.
